The Provost, Federal College of Education, Technical, FCET, Dr. Wahab Azeez has reiterated the determination of the institution to put the country on progressive and accelerated speed as far as Technical Vocational Education is concerned.
According to him, the country is in dire need of intervention in Technical Vocational areas of training and this must be looked into for development of the nation.
The Provost stated this recently at a press briefing to unveil his strategic plan in the next four years and to mark the takeoff of his second term in office starting from May, 2023.
He stated further that to achieve a robust technical vocational training, there is the need to build the infrastructural base and train the personnel in order to be able to to save the country a large sum of capital flight expended on training students abroad.

“We need to de-emphasise on theoretical education and put practice focused, technology, technical and vocational education on the front burner of our growth and development.
He however said to this end, he said part of his strategic plan is to make sure graduates of the institution would henceforth be job creators and entrepreneurs as against job seekers.
“We shall put fabrication of teaching and learning equipment and tools and improvisation of materials on our priority list in order to reduce the cost on procurement of these items.
“We shall use the existing human capital and facilities of the College to generate more incomes to augment the support of government and other funding agencies.
“We shall work towards generating our own power energy that can serve the the academic community in order to increase productivity in all ramifications.”
He also added that the College will collaborate with foreign experts, institutions and partners in the areas of training of staff and students especially in the area of exchange programmes in technical skills and training.
Listing the achievements of the administration in the last four years, Dr. Azeez said the institution have enjoyed relative peace and stability of Academic sessions over the years and give adequate attention to protection of lives and property on campus, provision of social amenities to enhance quality of life was significantly addressed.
He also added that the College have received full accreditation in their courses by the NCCE at the last accreditation exercise carried out in the College.
“We have demonstrated deliberate good welfare package for staff and students for the past four years and we shall continue to support staff materially and financially especially in the areas of request for career development and further studies both for academic and non-teaching staff.
Thanking the Federal Government for the support over the years, the Provost said the College still have challenges of inadequate allocation of funds: land constraints; insufficient manpower and lack of enough office spaces and teaching and learning equipment which needs to be address with urgency.
