…. Unveils Zero Emission Vehicles
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola has reiterated the university’s commitment to protect the environment by reducing air pollution in and around the campus.
She stated this at the 2024 media parley and unveiling of the UNILAG’s zero emission vehicles (e-Ride) and the new Logo at the main gate of the institution held on Monday.
According to the VC, the university before now made up its mind on reduction of air pollution therefore introduce a central generator to reduce emission.

“You will find out that when you go round the university, you’re not going to find many generators, It has come at a cost but we felt it was a cost worth paying for by ensuring that we are part of the solution of the future.”
She said: “We also then decided that we needed to reduce house and car emissions; though that will take a little longer, but we’re starting today by collaborating with the “Ogata Global Resources Limited “to start the journey with the unveiling of the Zero Emission Vehicles.”
Prof. Ogunsola also added that it is important for all to know that the university is not just about education, but also environment. “We’re also working towards reducing our paper use because again that takes “trees” and you need trees for paper.
Stating that companies partnering with the university are all own by alumni of UNILAG, Prof Ogunsola said: “we are today collaborating with “Ogata” to start our zero emission vehicle. They are electric cars, but they have a backup of solar energy and it’s for public transportation around the campus and the good thing is that it also will cost less.
“So, we are taking care of students and staff welfare, while also taking care of the environment.
Congratulating the company for the feat, Prof Ogunsola said that the university community is proud of them, adding; “this is what UNILAG alumni are doing and we are indeed proud of it.”
On the university’s logo, the VC said that it depicts a fountain of excellence that rises in the sun in aquatic splendour, indeed and in truth.
However, it was noticed that over the years, there has been a continuous use of different logos that do not represent the official one “and we identify that the logo at the gate was also wrong.
“And to address this and stop the use of this wrong logo and also to properly depict our brand, we have ensured that the university’s logo is uploaded on our website and we have continued advocacy to encourage stakeholders within and outside the university to use the correct logo.
“Today we are unveiling the official Unilag logo at the main gate to convey a message about our brand identity to the stakeholders and public. This will go a long way in projecting who we are,” she stated.
The CEO, Chat EED, a company that also collaborate with Ogata Global Resources Limited, Itunu Okusami said that due to the various problems burdening the environment, his company partner with Ogata Global Resources Limited to bring the zero emission vehicles (Electric Buses) to decarbonize the transport industry.
“This is the Ogata electric bus, it’s a 14 seater bus, 13 passengers and one driver; why we chose UNILAG is because the university is a hub of sustainability and for technology like this sustainability is important.
The Chairman of Ogata Global Resources Limited, Mr. Henry Eke said the partnership will go a long way to help reduce pollution which is a major harm to the environment.
He added that the initiative will also help harness UNILAG’s work study initiative “because we’re going to get students to drive it and most importantly, we are going to review the cost of transport with students’ price lesser to non-students.”
