The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to hold its maiden Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition as part of weeklong activities to mark 2023 Nelson Mandela Week in partnership with the South African Consulate in Lagos.
This will also celebrate impactful developmental research on Africa by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students the world over.
The Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, which originated from the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, was conceived to help PhD students to develop the skills to effectively discuss their research in 3 minutes, in a language suitable to a non-specialist audience.
Interested PhD students are required to submit a video entry (or a PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation with a voiceover) not exceeding 180 seconds through the dedicated digital application form via: https://form.jotform.com/231025144698557.

Any entry which exceeds 3 minutes will be disqualified. The competition is open to all PhD students; however, preference will be given to topics which tackle the challenges in Africa.
Entry submission is open until midnight (West African time GMT+1) on Friday, June 30, 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Friday, July 7, 2023 to confirm their place in the live competition to be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at the University of Lagos.
The competition prizes will include a sponsored weeklong research exchange opportunity at the University of Dundee, United Kingdom for the first place while the second will get a sponsored weeklong research exchange opportunity at Aston University, United Kingdom.
For the third place, €1000 worth of research bursary tenable at the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, University of Lagos.
