…..Charged Them On Commitment, Professionalism
Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos marked a significant milestone as it celebrated the induction ceremony for the university’s 2nd set of Bachelor of Nursing Sciences Graduates into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
The event held at the university on Wednesday, 15th October, 2025 had in attendance, the Acting Registrar, NMCN, Mr. Ndagi Alhassan, the Vice-Chancellor, Achievers University, Ondo State, Prof. Omolola Irinoye as guest lecturer and Mrs. Ololade Fadipe, Commissioner IV, Health Service Commission, Lagos State, among others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole while welcoming guests said the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the lives of the students, adding that the university is proud to be part of their journey in shaping the future of healthcare, not only in Nigeria, but also across the globe.

“As we stand at the threshold of a new chapter in their lives, I want to take a moment to appreciate the divine grace and guidance that has brought us all to this moment.”
He encouraged the inductees to know God and walk with Him. “As you begin this new phase of life and career, you are not just charting a new path, you are embarking on a lifelong journey of service, compassion, and care.
“You will encounter patients who are hurting, families who are anxious, and communities who are in need of hope. You will be challenged to be more than just a healthcare provider; you will be a source of comfort, a listening ear, and a helping hand.”
He added: “I want to say that you are not just nurses; you are leaders. You are the future of the profession, and we are confident that you will make a positive impact in the lives of your patients and the broader community. As you go forth, remember that you are ambassadors of our institution and your profession. Let your actions inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
“As you stand at the threshold of this new chapter, I want to remind you that you are part of a larger community that values academic excellence, innovation, and community service. Trinity University has three faculties and 20 programmes that are fully accredited by both the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies.
“We are committed to providing quality education that meets the needs of our students and the society,” he stated.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr. David Oyejide in his remarks said the university’s strategic vision places healthcare education at the forefront of national development.
“We recognize the pivotal role nurses play in achieving universal health coverage and improving community health indicators.
Thus, Trinity University investing in nursing education is an investment in the well-being of our society at large.
“In the light of that, our graduates have been equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to provide high-quality patient care, lead healthcare teams, and advance the nursing profession.
He added that at Trinity University, the Nursing programme holds a place of pride. “We regard it as one of our flagship academic endeavours for several compelling reasons.
“Firstly, our Nursing programme is designed with a commitment to academic excellence combined with practical, hands-on training facilitated by seasoned professionals and our trusted partnerships with reputable healthcare institutions all around Yaba.
“This ensures that our students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop critical clinical skills needed for real-world healthcare challenges.
Also, our Nursing curriculum is integrative and responsive, paying close attention to current global health trends, emerging technologies, and ethical standards, thereby equipping our nursing students to lead innovatively and responsibly in their careers.
In addition, he said the array of faculty members involved in the Nursing programme includes veteran nursing practitioners, researchers, and scholars who continually mentor and inspire our students. “This treasure trove of experience is a vital resource in shaping the character, competence, and confidence necessary for nursing excellence.”
To the inductees, Oyejide said: “I am assured that with the quality education and rigorous training you have received here at Trinity University and meeting the standard of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), you have been adequately equipped with the competence and capacity to deliver on the job as professionals anywhere in the world.”
The Guest lecturer, Prof. Omolola Irinoye speaking on the topic: ‘Navigating the Career Path in Nursing and Getting Fulfillment: Road mapping for young BNSC graduates explained that nursing education provides student nurses with essential competency as they would be entering a dynamic workforce.
Irinoye, who is also a Nurse added that transition to practice is often challenging, presenting new realities of local, national and global health issues, technology, and evolving patient needs but it requires new learnings and adaptations to bridge classroom learning with real-world practice.
It requires support and adaptation, development of resilience, leadership, and professional growth strategies,” she said.
Urging them to adapt the 5 C’s+ of the graduate nurse which are Commitment; Conscience; Competence; Compassion; Confidence; Empathy and Humility, Irinoye told them to be conscious of the challenging social situations, healthcare environment and extensive technology invasion that they must adjust to at all times.
She also urged them to put God at the centre of navigating any challenge that could be personal, familial, professional, others with the ever imposing emerging technologies.
“You must transform and move along the ladder of professional growth transforming from novice to becoming an expert, fulfilling God’s purpose and achieving personal fulfillment,” she said.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner IV, Health Service Commission, Lagos State, Mrs. Ololade Fadipe said that the ceremony is not simply a set of examinations passed or hour completed but the moment when eager hearts and trained hands commit to a profession that meets people at their most vulnerable and most human.
“You are joining a noble calling, one that asks you to bring skill, science, and your whole person to the service of humanity.”
She advised them to hold fast to several practical commitments such as lifelong learning, advocate boldly, practice cultural humility, prioritize teamwork, care for themselves and keep ethics at the center.
She commended the university for their dedication to training quality and well-behaved nurses.
The Acting Registrar, NMCN, Mr. Ndagi Alhassan while administering oath on the graduates said the ceremony marks the official entry into the nursing profession and to be able to practice as a qualify registered nurse.
He urged the inductees to strive for excellence, professionalism in their practice and set up goals with positive attitude and sincere determination to succeed.
A total of 35 graduates were inducted at the ceremony with Miss Affinnih Sewedo emerged the best graduating student.
