The Sterling One Foundation has announced its readiness to host the second edition of the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) from August 10 – 11, 2023 in Lagos, Nigeria with the theme – “Global Vision: Repositioning The African Development Ecosystem for Sustainable Outcomes.”
The event is coming on the back of the successful implementation of the solutions put forward to tackle key African challenges at the inaugural edition.
The success was recorded in partnership with experts across the government, public, private, and civil society sectors by sharing progress insights, and knowledge and galvanising impact investment for more sustainable solutions.
Launched in 2022, the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) represents a direct action toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa, through the effective collaboration of all key players within the African development ecosystem to achieve market-led solutions for the growth of the continent, favourable policies that support them and investments that help them to scale up.
According to Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of the Sterling One Foundation said “Over these two days, more than 2000 delegates will gather to discuss sustainable community development approaches, new impact investment strategies, and explore different opportunities for collaboration on a regional and continental level.
She added, “Partners will get the opportunity to showcase the latest impact-focused innovations across sectors; while building new relationships. Impact investors will also get the opportunity to listen to pitches from impact-driven entrepreneurs during the Summit’s Deal Room sessions.”
Ibekwe explained, “The Africa Social Impact Summit, is Sterling One Foundation’s flagship platform that collaboratively brings together all players in the African development space to share ideas, learnings, and plans to ensure the holistic achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030 and Agenda 2063).”
She added that ASIS is focused on giving various social impact players the right setting to discuss practical solutions to the continent’s challenges across climate action, circular economy, health, education, youth empowerment, renewable energy, and other sectors.
The summit was convened in collaboration with the United Nations Nigeria (UN) among other partners that cut across the Coca-Cola Company, United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria, British Council Nigeria, UNDP Nigeria, and MTN Foundation.
Others are SBG Insurance Brokers, Microsoft, SCALE Palladium, AVPA West Africa and UNIDO ITPO Nigeria. Still on the list of partners are Impact Investors Foundation, Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre (NCIC), NESG, Proshare, and Ventures Africa.
According to the Managing Director of Sterling Bank, Mr. Suleiman Abubakar who chaired the event at the bank’s head office in Lagos, the Summit’s Objectives cut across “The establishment of a collaboration framework among the public and private sectors and development community as well as impacting investment for social enterprises involved in critical sectors”.
Also as its objective is to engender and entrench increased involvement of key stakeholders across public and private sectors in developing policies to aid the speedy achievement of the SDGs.
