The importance of media in disseminating information of the good works Rotary has been emphasized at a one-day public image seminar of Rotary International District 9112 held in Lagos, recently.
Speaking at the programme with the theme: “The magic of public image in Rotary,” the Pioneer District Governor, Rotary International District 9112, Rtn Femi Adenekan said it is imperative of the media to promote the good works of Rotary, noting that the media can help tell the stories.
He added that Rotary executes projects that impact the world, and in an era of social media and disinformation, it is important to engage media professionals in telling credible stories.
Past President, Rotary Club of Ikeja, Rotn Sola Akinsiku, who spoke on “Expanding Rotary’s reach and impact through Out-of-Home Advertising,” explained the rudiments of using OOH as a medium of dissemination of information.
He explained that Out-of-Home Advertising is a good platform where Rotary can promote their image.
Akinsiku who is the President Out-of-Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN) and publisher of Brand Visibility Magazine, added that there is need to get approval from Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) before adverts can be placed on billboards.
He also added that contents on billboards must be very brief.
Chief Executive Officer Biscon Communications Limited, Bisi Olatilo insisted public image must be treated as sacrosanct.
Olatilo, who was the special guest of honour, commended Rotary for the great works they do, even as he assured of giving his unwavering support.
Speaking on “Exploring the Rotary brand centre,” Advertising guru, Rtn. John Senaya said brand identity is what differentiate a particular product from another adding that there is need to be intentional on managing brands.
He explained further that how brand manage their logo also creates an impression about them.”
Publisher Naija Times, Rtn. Ehi Braimah said the essence of organising the programme is, “to get the media on our side and show them why they should be promoting the works that Rotary do.”
The incoming president Rotary Club of Omole-Golden Rtn. Jide Ogunleye discussed, “Deploying social media channels to enhance the Rotary.”
He said social media platforms create brand awareness, provide insights and connect people globally. He suggested that Rotary members can leverage opportunities in the social media space.
He said, “You have to understand the platforms that are relevant for you. Not all platforms are relevant for brands.”
