…As It Gives Score card on interventions
Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110, has reiterated its commitment to humanity through its various interventions and projects across its seven areas of focus.
The areas of focus which include Education, health, poverty alleviation, conflict resolution and water sanitation, hygiene and environment, among others are commemorated every month of Rotary year.
Speaking at a media roundtable organized by the Club, the President, Rotary Club of Ikeja, Rotarian Sola Akinsiku said the event is in line with the expectations of Rotary International that from time to time the Club engages with the media so that it can use the platform to enlighten the public about Rotary.

“Rotary is all about service to humanity and it covers all areas of need and we have seven areas of focus and at every month there is a particular theme that every Rotary Club must focus on.
“For instance March is for water and sanitation, hygiene and environment and in the past we have done a lot in this aspect with a number of boreholes around town.
He explained further that for the Rotary year, the Club has done quite a lot. “We contributed a sports arena that can accommodate events even among adults at our adopted secondary school; Ikeja Junior High School in excess of N10m.”
“For the primary education, we donated books, literatures and writing materials to Opebi Primary School during this Rotary year.
For the poverty alleviation, Rotarian Akinsiku said on the first day of the Rotary year in July, 2022, the Club gave more than N1 million to 20 market men and women of Isolo community.
“We also donated equipment like sewing machines, hair driers, etc to graduates of the Nigeria Air Force Officers Wives Association, NAFOWA, and this cost over a million naira.
“Talking about contribution to special students, we were at Modupe Cole, Akoka and SOS Children Village, Isolo to donate food items and an e-library respectively.
The president also told journalists at the event that the Club was also at the Internally Displaced Persons, (IDP) camp Lagos where the Club donated gift items to support people that are there.
On health, he said the Club recently organized Polio Eradication programme at Isolo Community where children were immunized against Polio. “Likewise on a yearly basis, we donate medical equipment to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) every Christmas day.”
On the expectation as he winds up his tenure, Rotarian Akinsiku said as a president of the Club, you are expected to work till the last day of June, a day to the new Rotary year which begins in July of every year.
He however said for the remaining three months for this Rotary year, the exco will continue to work and one of the major projects they are going to deliver is the sinking of a borehole at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, Ogun State in collaboration with four Clubs in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In his remarks, Past District Governor, PDG Julius Adeluyi-Adelusi, reiterated the fact that Rotary is for humanity, adding that it is a service organisation which cuts across religion and ethnicity.
“No matter who you are, you can fit into Rotary,” he said.
Rotary Club of Ikeja is 54 years old with members in different disciplines.
