The Ondos will again roll out the drums on Saturday, December 27, in celebration as they converge for the grand finale of Ekimogun Day 2025, this year’s edition of the annual socio-cultural get-together of all sons, daughters and friends of the ancient Ondo Kingdom.
The Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo, and Jilo III is the Chief Host, and will be joined by a number of leading Royal Fathers including HIs Royal Majesty Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, the Elegushi of Ikate kingdom Lagos, and the Paramount Ruler of Idoma Kingdom, Ochi’doma Dr. John Elaigwu who are also the Royal Fathers of the day.
Chairman of the Day is Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye of Nibanola Golf Resort, Ondo, while the Chief launcher is Chief Victor Folami Awosika, the Lomafe of Ondo Kingdom.
In a statement, Chairman of the National Ekimogun Day planning Committee, Mr. Abiodun Akinjayeju, who disclosed that the Ondos were getting ready to have a carnival and real fun this year, said that a number of activities have been scheduled to make the 2025 outing highly memorable.
Some of the activities including an intercollegiate football match have already commenced. These activities will culminate in a gala night, for which the Ondo elites, social clubs, dignitaries, and other fun lovers are warming up. It will feature a number of musical talents led by the legendary Sir Shina Peters, the Afro Juju grandmaster.
There will also be on the bandstand, Musiliu Ishola (the rave of the moment for Apala music lovers), the crowd-pulling Ondo wave-making Dapsing, and Emperor Adegeye (King Sunny Ade’s son, in whom KSA himself is exceedingly confident and proud). The annual Ekimogun Day which commenced more than three decades ago has continued to serve a number of purposes notably fund raising for home grown development initiatives in Ondo Kingdom.
It has also continued to be a platform for the exposition of the very rich culture of the Ondo people, just as it has continued to offer a platform for fun and undiluted merry-making for participants.
The 2025 outing is deliberately reinvented, rebranded, and repackaged to encourage participation by all Ondos home and in the Diaspora, which is the major reason for hosting the grand finale in between Christmas and New Year festivities.
