The Out-of-Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN) is set to hold its 39th Annual General Meeting scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2024 at the De Signature Towers, Ibadan in Oyo State.
Speaking at the Press Conference to announce the programmes for the AGM, the President, Rotarian Olusola Akinsiku said the meeting marks the end of the first year of the two-year term of the Council and will be anchored on the theme: ‘Redefining OOH Media in Nigeria: The Practice, The Business and Value Creation.
According to him, the theme is borne out of the Association’s desire to constantly and regularly review and examine the Out-of-Home media ecosystem in line with prevailing exigencies with view to making the sub-sector of the national economy continuously relevant, responsive in all areas of engagements and respected by the critical stakeholders.
“In the main, it will also be a time to present our scorecard, and give account of our stewardship to our members, and to, as it were, receive further directives on their desired goals for another year.”
He disclosed further that the guest speaker is Mr. Lolu Akinwunmi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Prima Garnet Africa, a veteran practitioner in Advertising and leading lights in the industry in Africa.
Also dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony include the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is the distinguished special guest and other top government functionaries in the State.
“The leaders of the various sectors of the Nigeria economy, relevant to our practice and business are also expected to join us. They include the Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo; Heads of the Advertising Sectorial Groups (HASG), and the Chief Executives of the Advertisement and Signage Agencies.
Thanking members for their support, Akinsiku requested for more assistance both to ensure the success of the 39th AGM and for the accomplishment of the Association’s future engagements and corporate objectives as they unfold.
“Our avowed commitment is to truly redefine and reposition OOH Media Asset ownership and engagement in our dearly beloved country, Nigeria, in the overall best interest of all critical stakeholders.
Responding to questions, Rotarian Akinsiku said Federal Government should further create an enabling environment for out –of- Home Advertising in Nigeria to thrive.
He explained that all spheres of government regulate the sub sector, however he said they believe in constant engagements, constant discussions, constant negotiations, so that this regulations can be streamlined.
He therefore also called on federal and state governments to curb excessive regulations while making life easier for practitioners in the industry.
“Whatever happens in the larger economy also affects us, most organisations once there are economic crisis they look in the direction of advertising to cut down and when they cut down especially in these days of social media, the above the line media, media organisations platforms, OH inclusive that suffer the cut down, so we want government to take a critical look at our industry. We are not opposed to sanity, we are not opposed to regulation, all we are saying is that regulation should not be excessive,” he added.
The OAAN President also stated the need for the media to do more of analysis in reporting to foster social economic growth in the country.
