The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani has emphasised that the administration of President Ahmed Tinubu is geared and focused on achieving secure and easily accessible Internet for all Nigerians.
He stated this at the just concluded Africa Internet Governance Forum which was held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The aim of this is to bridge the digital divide that is the gap between the rich and poor whilst also creating innovative opportunities within the content.
According to a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director, Public Affairs of Nigerian Communications Commission, the Minister addressed the forum virtually and stated that Nigeria is well aware of the development of diverse new technologies around the use of internet and he assured everyone of continued efforts to collaborate with other African Nations on different fronts to ensure that the internet is properly managed so its numerous resources can be well utilised for citizens and nation’s growth.

Dr. Tijani further stated the need for consistent collaboration to develop the economy collectively which is preeminent in the agenda of the current administration in Nigeria.
He also added that some of the benefits of the forum included enhancing cyber security, bridging the digital divide and fostering innovation.
The Minister also encouraged all the stakeholders to ensure their primary objective was to work together to create policies and strategies that will shape the future of the internet in Africa, one that will reflect Africa’s shared values, aspirations and diversity.
Also, speaking at the event, Secretary of the African Parliamentary Network on Internet Governance, Honourable Samuel George from Ghana, called for free internet that is inclusive, safe and secured for all citizens of Africa.
The forum was a week-long event attended by parliamentarians and other key stakeholders in the Africa Internet Governance Forum.
