Dr. Aminu Maida, the newly appointed Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has pledged to align the Commission’s regulatory focus with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to promote the country’s digital transformation.
During a meeting with the Senior Management team of the NCC in Abuja on Tuesday, Maida emphasized the importance of ensuring affordable and reliable broadband services for all Nigerians.
He acknowledged the need for effective broadband infrastructure diffusion and praised the former chief executives of the Commission for their contributions to the telecoms industry.
Maida highlighted the importance of improving the quality of service on telecom networks and supporting the vision of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy.
He stressed the need to build robust broadband connectivity to facilitate seamless digital transactions and serve as the foundation for e-governance and other socio-economic initiatives.
In line with President Tinubu’s vision, Maida committed to increasing broadband penetration to 70% and providing coverage to 90% of the population by 2025. He recognized the need to address challenges such as the Right of Way (RoW) and ensuring the security of telecom infrastructure.
Maida emphasized that President Tinubu’s agenda focuses on job creation and enabling the digital economy. He urged the NCC staff to align with the strategic plan of the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy and work towards supporting the Renewed Hope agenda.
The EVC highlighted the importance of effective spectrum management and utilization in achieving digital connectivity objectives.
He also emphasized the Commission’s commitment to empowering three million Nigerians in digital skills and entrepreneurship, as outlined in the Strategic Plan of the Minister.
Maida expressed his appreciation for the efforts of his predecessors and the entire staff of the Commission in driving the digital transformation of various sectors. He called on the staff to join him in advancing the President’s Renewed Hope agenda and achieving sustainable development and a better quality of life for all citizens.
The appointment of Dr. Aminu Maida as the new NCC boss signifies a commitment to President Tinubu’s vision of advancing Nigeria’s digital economy.
With his focus on improving broadband connectivity and supporting digital training initiatives, Maida aims to accelerate the country’s digital transformation efforts.
