The Chancellor and Promoter of New City University (NCU), Aiyetoro, Ogun State, Mr. Akin Akingbesote has said that the establishment of NCU was inspired by the determination to contribute to the development of education as well as the country.
He disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Brand Visibility recently at the school campus in Ogun State.
He added that the establishment of the university was born out of the desire to help reduce the burden of non-availability of spaces for applicants seeking university admission.
“My desire was that we could also contribute our quota to reduce this problem. That’s why I had the focus to set up a university.
He was optimistic that the university will be one of the top-notch in the country adding that the university has capacity to admit about 1000 students.
Speaking on the programmes offered by the university, Akingbesote said that the 19 fully accredited programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC) cut across Faculty of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences with Nursing Science; Doctor of Physiotherapy; Medical Laboratory Sciences; Radiography and Public Healh.
“Our Faculty of Science and Computing has courses like Computer Science; Cyber-Security; Information Technology; Microbiology and Biochemistry while Faculty of Communications and Media Studies has courses like; Mass Communication; Public Relations; Advertising; Broadcasting; Journalism and Media Studies and Faculty of Social And Management Sciences courses include; Accounting; Business Administration and Economics,” he stated.
He disclosed that the development of the university spanned 10 years with the intention to get every classroom and laboratory ready for the academic session which will commence on 30th, November, 2025.
The Chancellor added that the university won’t be focusing on academics alone but will also leverage on entrepreneurial skills adding that it will however be in tandem with the NUC guidelines.
It’s not only about academics or making first class, you must also have practical knowledge of what you are doing in terms of entrepreneurial skill which we are all out to achieve in every of our courses.
The Promoter said that the tuition fees which include accommodation is relatively affordable and the university has put in place a flexible payment plan to make it convenient for parents.
Congratulating both the parents and students offered admission ahead of resumption, Akingbesote assured parents of a safe and conducive learning environment with 24-hour electricity, internet access and effective security network.
“I want to congratulate the students and remind them that they are coming into a highly disciplined environment because education is a weapon of liberation, but to benefit from it, you must obey the rules.
“They are potential global ambassadors, hence they must be ready to work hard to achieve greatness.
He commended the government on the introduction of students’ loan but advised on the need to extend it to cover private university students too.
“It shouldn’t be limited to government schools. A student is a student nobody knows tomorrow, may be a private university student will one day drive the economy. All students should have equal rights to access student loans,” he added.
