In the bid to make young get a skill and be self-reliant, the Lagos State office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has trained 32 people in fashion designing, computer skills, printing, catering.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Youth Transformation Training Scheme under the Vocational Skills Development Department (VSD) in Lagos, the Director General of the directorate, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said that the commissioned is committed to reducing the rising unemployment rate among Nigerian youths.
He said that training young people and giving them skills is one of the strategies the directorate adopted to reduce poverty among young people and make them self-reliant.
Fikpo, who was represented by Mrs. Elizabeth Omatsola, the Acting Lagos State Coordinator of the agency, said that the rising unemployment among Nigerian youths is a cause for concern, stating that there is urgent need to find a solution to the issue before it gets out of hand.

He stated that the NDE) has intensified its efforts to offer training, skill acquisition and entrepreneurial opportunities to the youths in order to enhance their capacity to become self-reliant and employ others.
Fikpo reaffirmed the commitment of the directorate to combating unemployment in the country through the implementation of NDE’s skill acquisition programmes and initiatives.
“These endeavours aim to empower jobless Nigerians to acquire valuable skills and become self-sufficient entrepreneurs. Today marks the commencement of the second phase of the Youth Transformation Training Scheme (YTTS) following the successful inaugural flag-off held in September 2022 where 50 participants were recruited and trained,” he said.
The director-general stated that the organisation will train 32 participants in various trades, including fashion designing, computer skills, printing and catering during the second phase.
However, Mrs. Elizabeth Omatsola disclosed that the training will last six to 18 months and thanked the trainers for helping the agency to achieve its objective of equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills.
