…Agency To Commercialise Products Via Technology Transfers
Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, envisions a future where every household in Nigeria benefits from the agency’s innovative products and technologies.
Speaking in Abuja, Halilu revealed that tangible products derived from NASENI’s prototypes will hit the market through technology transfer arrangements, anticipated to launch by the first quarter of 2024.
During a television media interaction at the Agency’s headquarters on Thursday, Halilu emphasized the need for transparency and focused efforts to ensure NASENI meets its stakeholders’ high expectations and delivers on its mandate.
“Since assuming office in September, enhancing the agency’s human capital potential, rebranding efforts, and engaging stakeholders have been among his top priorities.
Halilu declared an end to the era of shelving prototypes at the Agency, highlighting plans for a national rebranding campaign that aims to place NASENI products in every Nigerian household.
“To achieve this, the agency intends to establish NASENI showrooms in key cities across the country, providing direct access to the technologies previously only seen on television.
Drawing on his background in manufacturing and technology innovation, Halilu acknowledged the need to transform research into meaningful products with a significant impact on the economy. To accomplish this, NASENI is focusing on technology transfer, sparking keen interest from private sector organizations keen to collaborate and invest in the agency’s mission.
Following a successful trip to China, where NASENI secured a $2 billion partnership agreement for technology transfer, Halilu projected a potential $6 billion in foreign direct investment for Nigeria.
The agency has garnered substantial interest in various areas, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Electric Vehicles (EVs), Agricultural equipment, and Electronics.
Keen on Africa’s development and economic growth, Halilu emphasized the importance of adding value to Nigeria’s abundant resources. Recognizing the need to transform the narrative of a predominantly consuming economy, NASENI has devised strategies, partnerships, and policies to add value to commodities and raw materials before export.
Engaging in collaborative efforts and product offtake agreements, NASENI has piqued the interest of various organizations, including the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), which has committed to a substantial $200 million procurement agreement contingent upon NASENI’s ability to deliver the required products.
The agency has engaged in extensive discussions with key stakeholders, exploring opportunities in various sectors, including gas, with the Minister of Science and Technology and other relevant governmental bodies. Notably, a recent engagement with the Senate Committee on NASENI displayed a shared commitment to driving economic growth and development within the real sector.
