Telecommunications service provider, MTN Nigeria has received a “B-” rating for Climate Change and a “C” for Water Security from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), highlighting the company’s dedication to tackling environmental challenges and maintaining transparency in its climate and water management strategies.
These ratings reflect MTN’s ongoing commitment to improving its non-financial disclosures and sustainability reporting, showcasing accountability and progress in its environmental initiatives.
Tobe Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Nigeria, commented on the CDP scores, stating, “We are integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into the core of our operations, acknowledging their importance in fostering long-term value for our stakeholders.
“Our sustainability efforts are evident through initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption, enhancing energy efficiency, and increasing the use of renewable energy. Through our Project Zero initiative, we are making strides towards lowering greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. Receiving a ‘B-’ in climate change from CDP, falling within the ‘Management’ band, is a testament to our advancements.”

The CDP is a global non-profit organization that operates the world’s only independent environmental disclosure system. In 2024, over 24,800 of the largest companies worldwide across more than 90 countries reported their environmental impacts through the CDP’s comprehensive framework, facilitating informed decision-making and promoting sustainable growth.
