The Management of the Lagos State University, Ojo and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Friday held a strategic meeting on the operation of the institution’s Centre of Excellence for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CORIE), located at the Awori House, LASU Ojo campus.
The LASU management led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello affirmed LASU’s commitment to the partnership and outlined the university’s expectations in five key areas: creativity, digital media, skill acquisition, research & innovation, and SDGs.
He expressed urgency in activating the hub to support students’ innovative pursuits.
The UNDP Nigeria’s Chief Innovation Officer, William Tsuma, emphasised the Centre’s potential to address societal challenges, commercialize student innovations, and serve as a nexus between the university, government, and society.

He described CORIE as a hub for nurturing young problem-solvers and entrepreneurs, envisioning it as a centre for solutions to societal problems
Dean, School of Creativity, Culture and Tourism Studies, Professor Tunji Azeez, highlighted infrastructure and operational needs for the hub’s success, including power, staffing, weekly product showcases, a digital marketplace platform, security, and curriculum integration.
The Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition, Professor Habeeb Sanni, expressed optimism about the collaboration’s impact, while the Deputy Registrar, LASU-SDGs Mrs Margaret Okonji, Deputy Registrar, DVC Academics’ office, Mr. Samuel Asesanya and UNDP’s Head of Experimentation, Jamila Mohammed contributed insights.
Equally present at the breakfast meeting were Mr. Deji Randle, Mr. Abdul Hakeem Akintobi (DVC Academics Office), Mr. Femi Akinsoji Akerele, LASU-SDGs, Mrs. Rehanat Mogaji, LASU CIPR representative, and Lantana Elhassan, Head of Explorations, UNDP.
The meeting ended with a brief tour of the UNDP Ikoyi facility led by the UNDP Ecosystem and Community Manager, Aisha Usman.
