… Best Graduating Student With 5.00 Gets N0.5m Reward
The Lagos State University, Ojo is set to graduate 282 First Class at its 26th convocation for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.
Also a total of 3, 375 students will graduate with the second class upper division, 5, 311 with second class lower division and 1,105 will graduate with third class Honours at the ceremony.
For higher degree programmes, a total of 1,604 will be graduating with different degrees and 432 in Diploma programmes.
Speaking at the press conference to announce the convocation ceremonies on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello said with the total of 282 first class in the two academic sessions, the University is graduating her highest number of first class in her 40 years history.
“I am happy to announce our best Graduating students for the two academic sessions, 2020/2021 Academic session Lopez Feyisayo Divine of the department of Physiology, Lagos State University of Medicine with CGPA of 4.91.
“While for the 2021/2022 Academic session, we have Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, Law, CGPA of 5.00 who is our best Graduating Student in history.”
She added that apart from the 121 individuals who will be awarded doctorate degrees, the university will be conferring Honorary Doctorate Degrees and an Appreciation Award on eight eminent Nigerians who have made valuable contributions to the development of the university and the nation at large.
She also disclosed a sum of N500, 000 naira to be giving to the best Graduating Student by the Senate of the university and in celebration of the university’s 40th anniversary this year.
On the events lined up for the convocation ceremony, Prof Olatunji-Bello said the convocation lecture titled: ‘The Impact of Digitalization on Higher Education in the Digital Age will be delivered by the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund), Architect Sonny Echono on Tuesday, 20th, June, 2023.
“On Wednesday, 21st June, 2023, the Award of Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degrees will hold at 10:00am.
She added that the award of Doctorate Degrees (PhD), Distinguished Professorship, conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and Appreciation Award for some eminent Nigerians will hold on Thursday, 22nd June, 2023.
“Furthermore, the Senate of the University has also conferred the title of Distinguished Professor on two respected and accomplished academics in the university, Professor Dapo Folorunsho Asaju of department of Religious and Peace Studies and Professor Babajide Olufemi Elemo of the department of Biochemistry,” she added.
Stating that in the march towards the fulfilment of the six strategic goals, the vision to become the best university in West Africa, the VC said the institution have recorded some modest achievements which include Academic Development; Research; ICT Innovations, IGR Drive and Staff and Students Welfare.
“I therefore appreciate the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his immeasurable and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our University.”
A total of 10, 183 will graduate with first degrees at the ceremony.
