The Lagos State University Centre of Excellence for Sargassum and Research (LASU CESAR) has emerged winner in the Tertiary Institutions Category of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Expo, Abuja 2023.
This was announced at the weekend at the Eagle Square, the venue of the exhibition/expo.
It will interest you to note that over one hundred and thirty individuals participated in the expo while over three hundred and forty products were assessed by the team of assessors from the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation based on the following criteta; originality, creativity/innovativeness, cost effectiveness and efficiency, local raw materials, content/labelling/packaging, presentation, patent, contribution to national economic growth and sustainable development, potential for commercialization.
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Distinguished Senator, Dr. Olorunimbe Mamora, the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, the Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Fahm, the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State governor Mr Saheed Balogun, Heads of Research Institutes, Ministry Officials, Corporate Organisations, Captains of Industries were all impressed with the ingenuity of the LASU CESAR Team at the expo.
The Lagos State University Centre of Excellence for Sargassum Research presented four (4) major products for assessment at the expo namely; Animal Feeds (Fish, Pigs, Poultry, Grasscutter and Rabbit); Pharmaceutical (Vitamins A & C, Alginate and Fucoidan); Construction (ceiling boards and bricks and Cosmetics (cat fish oil and organic body cream).
The Animal Feeds for fish, Pigs, chicken, grasscutter and rabbit won the overall best product in the Tertiary Institutions category at the expo.
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Distinguished Senator Dr. Adeleke Olorunimbe Mamora congratulated all the awardees and in particular, LASU for the feat.
The Minister, during the opening ceremony tour of the participating exhibition stand, had commended the university for embarking on a cutting edge research that is capable of empowering and touching lives and also promised to give necessary support to take LASU CESAR to the expected height.
This was also corroborated when the Minister for State for Science, Technology and Innovation Chief Henry Ikor visited the CESAR stand on the Day four(4) of the expo that the Ministry will make LASU CESAR the hub for Scientific Innovation.
As soon as the presentation of awards was over, the Centre Leader of CESAR Distinguished Prof. Martins Anetekhai was full of praises to the Governor of Lagos Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for the support while also appreciating the Commissioner Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm for the supporting before and while in Abuja with his physical presence.
Distinguished Prof. Anetekhai thanked the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello for her support and the words of encouragement while at Abuja for the expo.
He stated that without the support and sponsorship of Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) the team wouldn’t have been able to make the expo.
The LASU CESAR is currently enjoying a grant being sponsored by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Science and Research Innovation Council (LASRIC).
