The Lagos State University, Ojo, Students’ Union held her National Parliamentary Summit 6.0 at the Students’ Arcade recently, where the keynote Speaker who doubles as the State Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State Chapter, Comrade (Dr.) Adewale Ayodele charged all participants to look for good mentors in order to achieve their positive goals in life.
According to him, mentorship is very important, “if you want to develop, get a good mentor, you cannot develop without having good mentors, these are the people that will help you in the attainment of your goal in life.”
The former Lagos State University Students’ Union President stated further that the civic responsibility of a student is to make sure that he or she is law abiding, read and pass examinations and inculcate a good learning character in order to become a better person in the society.
He advised them to strive hard to achieve success, be problem solvers, job creators and not a liability to the society at large.
The First Female LASUSU Speaker, Rt. Hon. Opemipo Bamgbopa in her remarks appreciated the Management team ably being led by the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji – Bello, and all members of the Parliament of Lagos State University.
The 32nd LASUSU Speaker affirmed that the essence of the Summit was to ensure strong participation of individuals from the public service and other organizations connected to their vision to discuss issues trending and to further have a robust relationship and connection with these well-established individuals.
“This is the legacy we have laid and we have continued to follow and it’s never ending.” she said.
The highlight of the Summit was the presentation of Awards of Excellence to personalities within and outside the University.
Award of Honour was presented to Dr. Ibrahim Fatoyinbo (Lecturer, Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University of Science and Technology), Hon. Edidi Babatunde, Hon. Ibrahim Oladimeji, (Former Chairman Lagos State Speakers’ Forum Youth/Policy Development Strategy), Mrs. Damilola James (Youth Advocate and Social Policy Practitioner) and the APC Youth Leader, Lagos State, Dr. Muritala Seriki.
The Acting Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR), Mr. Olaniyi S. Jeariogbe was equally honoured for his mentorship as he was given Meritorious Award Of Service and Appreciation for his selfless service.
The well attended and historic National Parliamentary Summit 6.0 was also graced by the Director, Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), Prof. ‘Yinka Okubena – Dipeolu, Deputy Registrar/Head, LASU Counseling Unit, Dr. Ayeni, past Speakers and Leaders of students of the University and students from various Departments, Faculties and Schools.
