….. As Chancellor, Dr. Oyedepo Counsels On Discipline
The Chancellor Covenant University, Ota, Dr. David Oyedepo has urged the new students of the university on the need to be disciplined in their day to day activities as they embark on their academic journey.
He told them early to work, early to rise is a vital rule of life and anyone who refuses to take responsibility early will end up a liability later.
He stated this during the matriculation ceremony for 2025/2026 academic session for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes held at the institution on Friday.

Oyedepo who gave the charge on the topic: ‘Discipline – A Foremost Asset of Life added that no one will ever be more accomplished in his pursuit than he is disciplined. “This is why, at the root of success, you will find a high level of discipline.
“Therefore whatever we see in our tomorrow is simply the fruit of the seed of hard work, discipline, and sacrifice sown today,” he reiterated.
The Chancellor also urged the students to take self-discipline as a major asset to walk the journey of academics, adding that it applies to their day to day activities with abilities to discipline their taste; discipline their approach to work; discipline their time and discipline their spending because a waster today is sure to become a beggar tomorrow.
Welcoming and congratulating the matriculating students, Oyedepo urged them to pay today and play tomorrow, adding that they should endeavour to live under their own set rules which will help them to build their tomorrow.
He congratulated the parents and prayed the outcome of their investments will be a major sources of blessings to them.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, in his remarks said as the students take the matriculation oath, they should realize that they have been admitted into a university that ranks globally and will continue to be a beacon of academic prowess as the university is top in Africa in the latest 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings.
“Covenant University emerged as the No 1 University in Africa and the 49th globally and we are the only African institution to break into the global top 50 in this category,” he disclosed.
For National Dominance, the VC said Covenant University for several years running have maintained the position as the No. 1-ranked university in Nigeria.
“For Research Impact: Our faculty and researchers are among the top 1% globally in citations and research output, ensuring that the education you receive is not just theoretical but grounded in cutting-edge discovery. Covenant is indeed a city set on a hill and by extension, so are you. Arise and Shine: Occupying Your Place as a Global Leader,” he stated.
Prof. Anake assured the new students of the university’s continue investment in world-class infrastructure to ensure their learning experience is seamless, adding that this include digital expansion; campus expansion and industry partnerships with collaborations with global tech giants and research institutes to ensure that students have access to international internships and certifications before they even graduate.
Congratulating the matriculating students, the VC said the university’s commitment to them is to offer world-class infrastructure; cutting-edge research and a disciplined environment “with a peaceful, strike-free, and secure campus where their four or five years mean four or five years.
“To our matriculants, the road to the top is always under construction. You must be ready to work. What is your vision for these four or five years? Do not just pass through Hebron; let the spirit of this environment possess you. Reject mediocrity, embrace discipline. The world is not waiting for your certificate; it is waiting for your manifestation,” he said.
The new students cut across different faculties of the university for both undergraduates and postgraduates studies.
