Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN) has affirmatively declared the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) a worthy telecom regulator as a result of the commission’s continued and relentless efforts in promoting awareness and knowledge of Information Communications Technologies (ICT), among the judiciary particular and the entire Nigerian populace at large.
The CJN, who chairs the Board of Governors of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), mentioned this in his opening address at the 2023 edition of the NCC-hosted yearly workshop for judges on telecommunication issues which began in Kano on Monday.
According to a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director, Public Affairs, NCC; Justice Ariwoola said that information technology and telecom services have gone beyond the traditional method of court service delivery, as the use of internet is now a common feature of current times with innovative and interactive influences on the general public, hence the importance of the workshop.

The CJN and other Honourable Justices of the Supreme Court, Appeal Court, Federal High and State High Courts and the NJI were welcomed to the workshop by the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who intimated them with the new development that the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, was going through a critical review to update its provisions.
Addressing the theme of the workshop, “The Adjudication Path in a Digital Era,” Justice Ariwoola mentioned that it strikes a chord with the current realities that judicial officers face technologies that have most importantly changed how they communicate, access information and conduct legal proceedings. “We are obliged to embrace this transformation while ensuring that doing justice remains at the forefront of our efforts,” he further added.
The EVC/CEO of the NCC, Professor Danbatta in his welcome address showered his unwavering appreciation and gratitude to the CJN and other top stakeholders in the judiciary for making out time to be a part of the workshop and he assured them of the Commission’s drive to deepen knowledge of the digital future on the judiciary as a very crucial arm of government.
Danbatta further added that the workshop was paramount because the telecom sector has experienced a lot of transformative change since the NCA 2003 and there was need to be responsive in order to keep up with the dynamics of technologies to come.
The NCC hosted the 2023 National Workshop for Justices and Judges on Legal issues in Telecommunications Matters in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI).
