……At 17th Convocation, Reiterates Commitment To Excellence
Department of Computer Engineering, College of Engineering has produced the best graduating student for the 17th convocation of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State.
The valedictorian, Miss Oduwaiye Ifeoluwa Lois graduated with a CGPA of 4.94 to emerge the best student out a total of 794 for First degree at the ceremony held on Saturday, November 1st, 2025 at the university.
Speaking at the ceremony which was also to mark the university’s 20th anniversary, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jeremiah Ojediran said Lois is typical example of the university’s outlook for the future, as she proved, while at the university, to be serious and focused student who believes in volunteering and contributing in no small measure, to the overall success of the team.

Reaffirming her exploits in volunteer experience, awards and achievements in and outside the university, Prof Ojediran said her final year project, ‘Development of an AI-Based Adaptive Video Switching Software Using Facial Emotion Recognition, is an indication of the fertile opportunities available at BellsTech and for greatness in the students.
Lois is an embodiment of being focused and availing one-self of such opportunities. “We are proud of you and we sincerely look forward to hearing great things from you as you are sent forth today”.
The Vice-Chancellor added that in addition to producing future ready graduates, the university will keep breaking new grounds; “we are not resting on our oars, and it is reiteration of our strong belief in the vision of our founding fathers.”
“We are unique in so many ways and we have been able to leverage this to advance the course of our achievements,” he stated.
On the university’s growth, Prof. Ojediran disclosed that over the past academic year, the University recorded significant progress in key indicators that contribute to institutional visibility, reputation and ranking.
“There is a notable rise in the number of publications indexed in SCOPUS and other reputable international databases. Bells university position on SCOPUS database was from 103rd position in 2021 to 57th position in 2025, among all universities in Nigeria, inclusive of all research centers and teaching institutes, and 9th position among all private universities in Nigeria with a total of 1118 publications on the SCOPUS database.
He said that other areas of visibility include enhanced online presence; stronger academic collaborations; active conference engagement, recognition and ranking.
He explained further: “Preliminary indicators from ranking platforms show an upward trajectory in the university’s visibility metrics, especially in research engagement, citations, and web presence.
“BellsTech has made a visible impact in the number of SCOPUS research output, which has greatly improved its ranking in Sub-Sahara university sector, moving from the 50-60 belt in 2024 to 41 in 2025.”
For the incoming year, the VC said reports of three selected SDGs, where the university showed strong strengths in SDGs 2,4 and 13 and with SDG 17 have been collated for data submission for participation in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings.
He thanked the promoter of the university, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for the immense confidence reposed in him, and by extension the administration in overseeing the unique institution of higher learning. “He provided such depth of wisdom which was the fulcrum on which we were able to navigate the tides successfully.
“He has been a strong bulwark of support with which we have been able to make some modest landmark achievements,” he added.
Congratulating the graduating students, Prof. Ojediran charged them not to drop the baton as world changers rather they should pursue their dreams boldly and with dedication.
“Graduation is a major milestone, so, we celebrate you on this your special milestone and we pray for you with that as you embark on this very vital phase of your lives that you will not fail,” he said.
The President and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Kola Jamodu in his speech expressed gratitude to the founding fathers for their vision of a World Class University and for their great contributions to education in Nigeria.
He also acknowledged members of the Bells University Parents Forum (BUPF) for their great contributions to the sustainable development of the university.
The Pro-Chancellor and chairman of Council, Prof. Bart Nnaji in his speech appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ojediran and the entire team for keying into the vision and mission of the university, adding that the university has made remarkable achievements in teaching and research and this gladdens the heart of the founding fathers of the university.
In his remarks, the Chancellor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo congratulated the graduates for their diligence and hard work, the reward of which they are reaping today. “I urge you to be good ambassadors of the university.”
The valedictorian, Miss Oduwaiye Lois in her speech appreciated her parents and family for their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.
To the 2025 graduating class of BellsTech, Lois said: “As we step forward into the next chapter of our lives, let us carry with us the lessons learned, the friendship forged and the courage to face the unknown. May we embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth and continue to inspire those around us.”
A total of 272 postgraduate, 674 regular and 120 special direct entry (top up) undergraduates across five colleges, College of Natural and Applied Sciences (COLNAS), College of Management Sciences (COLMANS), College of Environmental Sciences (COLENVS), College of Engineering (COLENG) and College of Food, Agricultural Science and Technology (COLFAST) graduated at the ceremony.
