….Marks 20-years Anniversary
Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State (Bellstech) will at its 17th Convocation ceremony graduate 114 First Class out of a total of 794 for First degree at the ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 1st November, 2025.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jeremiah Ojediran disclosed this during a press conference to announce activities for the convocation and 20th anniversary of the university on Thursday.
He stated further that a total of 272 Postgraduate which cut across five Colleges include College of Natural and Applied Sciences (COLNAS), College of Management Sciences (COLMANS), College of Environmental Sciences (COLENVS), College of Engineering (COLENG) and College of Food, Agricultural Science and Technology (COLFAST) will also graduate at the ceremony.

Highlights of the ceremony, according to the Vice-Chancellor include the convocation lecture entitled: ‘Reorientation of Nigerian Youths for National Development: Addressing Skill Mismatch and Unemployment’ will be delivered by Professor of Public Administration and Public Policy and Current Honourable Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission Abuja, Professor Tunji Olaopa on Friday, 31st, October, 2025.
“The 17th Technology Fair and 20th Anniversary ‘Green Technology and Climate Change in 21st Century Food Security: Way Forward’ will have Professor Olayinka Ohunakin, Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering, Covenant University, Ota as guest speaker,” he added.
He also said that the university will confer honorary award on two eminent Nigerians, Prof. Isaac Adebayo Adeyemi, Professor of food Science and fellow of the Nigerian Academy Of Science. 2012. Immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, (2006 -2016).
“Also, Barrister Taiwo Afolabi, Managing Director SIFAX group of companies a recipient of the prestigious national award a Member of the Order Of the Niger (MON) 2014.”
He explained the significance of the event, saying that the Ceremony is the 17th for the university, uninterrupted showing the establishment of a smooth running system without disruptions. Despite the global shut down, COVID-19 Pandemic.
“This ceremony is the tenth, as the third management of this University and this is the 20th anniversary of coming into existence, as a child of vision. It marks our arrival into distinction as a Centre of Excellence with giant strides and progress, despite all manners of challenges.”
On achievement of the university, the VC disclosed that on Webometrics, BellsTech moved from 98th in Africa (2014) to 41st in Sub-Saharan Africa (THE 2024), ranked 13th in Nigeria and 4th among Private Universities in the Sub-Saharan Africa ranking 2024.
He added that Scopus-indexed outputs grew from 86 papers in 2014 to 1,450 by 2025 an average annual growth of 27 % while the number of programmes offered in the University increased from 28 (in 2014) to 52 across 5 colleges in 2025.
“Two Professors in the College of Engineering are ranked on the top 2% among researchers in Africa. By 2024 rankings, we had only 1 Professor on this list.
He added: “Bells University of Technology is the First to run the following programmes at undergraduate level, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronic engineering, Telecommunications engineering, Food Science with Business and Business Computing with IT.”
Prof. Ojediran also spoke on the students’ population, stating that the population grew from about 2300 in 2014 to 4000 undergraduates and 700 postgraduates in 2025 while maintaining adequate staff-to-student ratio.
“Over 3,000 students have completed the Student Work Experience Programme (SWEP) in road construction, brick-making, computer assembly and electrical installations on campus, saving external labour cost and embedding practical skills.
“Our Graduates have won first place in four national innovation competitions since 2022, most recently the NAAS sustainable design contest 2024.”
Speaking on the management score card, Prof Ojediran said that the mandate when they assumed office in July 2016 was on four priorities: “To Re-engineer our physical space for a 21st-century University of Technology; Deepen visibility in enrolment, research and webometric presence; Strengthen industry linkage and community impact; and Produce graduates whose intellect is matched with empathy and entrepreneurial spirit which has been achieved over the years.
He thanked the promoter of the university, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for the confidence, support and guidance through the intricacies of University administration.
“Also, past Presidents & members of Board of Trustees, Chancellors, Pro- Chancellors & members of Council are also deeply appreciated and the current leadership for support provided and immense confidence reposed in the administration,” he stated.
