Lagos City Model College hall at Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, recorded smiles and tears of joy by some students and parents on Friday, as a lawmaker, Mr. Rasheed Shabi, distributed back-to-school kits to students.
Shabi, who represents Lagos Mainland 2 Constituency of Lagos State, distributed iPad, schoolbags and books to students from the constituency.
He also gave N100, 000, N75, 000 and N50, 000 to 24 students, who were outstanding in various categories in their 2025 summer coaching examination.
The 2025 annual summer coaching, organised by Shabi, featured skill acquisition.

It held for six weeks during the long vacation, with more than 1,275 JSS3 and SS3 students participating at four centres in the constituency.
Addressing the students, Shabi urged them to be diligent and strive for excellence, saying that education remained the surest path to success.
He remarked that students deserved every support to achieve excellence.
He charged those who got financial rewards to use them for the intended purpose.
“We invited a bank here to open accounts for the students, where the money will be lodged,” he said.
The lawmaker pledged to distribute free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms in 2026 as part of his investment in the future of young people in his constituency.
“Every child deserves equal access to learning opportunities. These kits will ease the financial burden on parents and motivate students to take their studies seriously.
Miss Fathia Musa, one of the beneficiaries and a student of Mainland Senior High School, Fadeyi, could not hold back tears as she received N100, 000.
Her mother, a cleaner, was equally overwhelmed and tears of joy.
“This is unbelievable. I never expected it. I sincerely appreciate this support from our lawmaker.
“It will go a long way in easing my academic journey,” the student said.
A parent, Mrs. Joy Anigbogu, whose daughter got the financial reward of N50, 000 in the junior category, was also overwhelmed.
She thanked Shabi for the gesture. “This is a blessing. Many families struggle to provide learning tools for their wards.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shabi’s wife, Kadijat, also distributed free uniforms to 100 male students and female students from 12 schools, at the event.
She said, “I decided to be part of this year’s edition because the programme is getting bigger.
“I call on parents to monitor their children’s activities.”
In his remarks, the All People Congress Leader in Lagos Mainland Constituency 2, Mr. Olawale Oshun, applauded Shabi for the initiative and other contributions.
Oshun advised the students who benefitted from the learning materials and financial rewards to remain focused on their studies, maximise opportunities, and strive to become worthy ambassadors of the constituency.
Mr Tunde Ajayi, Coordinator of the event, listed the four centres for the summer coaching as Lagos City College, Yaba; Onike Girls, Iwaya; Eletu Odibo Senior School, Abule Oja; and Mainland Senior Secondary School, Fadeyi.
