…. Releases 122 Graduates
A total of 28 bagged First Class honours as the Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos graduated 122 students at its third convocation ceremony held on Friday.
The 122 students from the Faculties of Nursing Science, Basic Medical and Applied Sciences and Arts, Management and Social Sciences received their degree certificates and other prizes at the ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Kolawole in his address said Trinity University pride itself in producing students that have been equipped with sound knowledge, valuable practical skills and impeccable character.

According to him, Trinity University, on its avowed commitment to improving university education in Nigeria and produce graduates that are going to be job ready or become entrepreneurs has added skills acquisition as an integral part of the programme.
“Our students are expected to register for any one skill related programme along with their core academic,” he added.
He said the university’s students have been doing well in their professional development by participating and recording good results in all academic and social activities for which they have been involved outside the campus.
He added that efforts are being made to add three new programmes in addition to the ones the university has accreditation to run. “The three programmes are Cyber Security, Biochemistry and Logistics and Supply.
This he said is a reflection of their determination to continue to offer the students opportunities to achieve their potentials. “The implication of this development is that the university is ever ready to take on new challenges, improve its infrastructure, create the necessary atmosphere for students to experiment and promote the educational development of the country.
Speaking on the graduating students, Prof. Kolawole disclosed that the university first set of sixteen Nursing Sciences and two Medical Laboratory Science graduates are among the graduating students with 104 from other disciplines.
He said: “28 students comprising of 12 male and 16 female made First Class degrees in the Faculty of Basic and Applied Medical Science and Arts, Management and Applied Science.
“One student had distinction in the Faculty of Nursing Science, 65 students made Second Class upper division, 25 are in the second class lower division while three had a third class degree.”
He explained further that a total of 22.95% of the students in the 2023/2024 academic session made first class degree to show the reward of the hard work and dedication they put into their study while they were undergraduates in the university.
Congratulating the graduating students, Prof. Kolawole commend them for allowing themselves to be schooled in the core values of the university in addition to the core academic activities in the university.
“I have no doubt that the knowledge and skills they have acquired will help them to successfully navigate the world of work and make a lasting impact on the global landscape.
“There is no doubt that the journey has been very tough, challenging, demanding and tasking but despite the challenges, it is on record that you have come, you have laboured, cultivated good friendship, acquired good culture and are leaving with your heads held high, with your certificates, values, and skills that will help you become a celebrity in a few years from now,” he said.
The Chancellor of the University, Dr. Samuel Adedoyin congratulated the graduating students on their remarkable achievement.
“Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have paid off, and you should be proud of yourselves and as you stand here today, you are not just receiving a degree, you are becoming part of a community of scholars, leaders and change makers, who will shape the future of our world.”
He announced the establishment of three new awards, Chancellor’s Prize for overall best students; Chancellor’s Prize for innovation and Chancellor’s Prize for entrepreneurship that will be endowed in perpetuity.
These awards, he explained will recognise and reward outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit.
The award, he said, will not only recognise and reward outstanding students but also inspire and motivate others to strive for excellence. “I am confident that these awards will become a hallmark of Trinity University’s commitment to excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship.”
He congratulated the graduates and challenged them to be the change makers, the leaders, and innovators that Nigeria needs.
“Don’t be discouraged by the challenges we face as a nation; instead , see them as opportunities to make a difference because Trinity University has given you the foundation, and you have the skills, the knowledge and the passion to drive positive change and make a difference, ” he stated.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of Trinity University, Deacon Adebowale Tade, in his remarks said Trinity University is the third institution created by the Trinity Education and Development Foundation (TEDF), after their Primary and Secondary schools and today all three institutions are thriving with God’s guidance.
He thanked the faculty and staff of the university for their tireless efforts in shaping the minds of the students and urged the graduating students to go out into the world and make positive impact.
Also, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Samuel Olatunji in his remarks said at Trinity University, they have remained steadfast in pursuit of academic excellence, innovation and character development.
“In six years, we have had seven matriculation and three convocation ceremonies. Our graduates are testimonials to the commitment, and we are proud of the individuals they have become.”
Mr. Farouq Adedolapo Animashaun of the department of Computer & info Sciences with the highest CGPA of 4.95 is the best overall graduating student and the valedictorian for the graduating students.
