….,..At 28th Convocation
The Lagos State University (LASU),Ojo will release 11, 917 graduates at its 28th convocation ceremony scheduled for 7th to 10th April, 2025.
This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello during a press conference to herald the ceremony on Thursday.
According to her, out of the 11,917, 8, 711 students graduating with First degree programmes from the university, 192 came out with First Class honours and 17 with unclassified (MBBS/BDS) degrees.

Also for the first degree programmes, she said 3,076 will graduate with second class upper division, 4,397 with second class lower division, 990 with third class and 39 with a pass.
Prof. Olatunji-Bello also added that a total of 971 Diploma students are graduating this year with 123 Distinctions, 550 Upper credits, 287 Lower credits and 11 pass.
“Out of the 2,235 postgraduate students graduating, we have 302 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 Academic Masters degrees, 639 Professional Masters degrees, 125 Doctor of philosophy (Ph.D) degrees and 37 Professional doctoral Degrees.”
She explained further that besides the 162 doctoral Degrees awardees, the Senate of the university will confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd). Chairman National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Otunba Olufemi Pedro for their invaluable contributions to the development of the university and the nation at large.
She also said that one of the university’s serving and esteemed academic, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.
Speaking further on the ceremony, Prof Olatunji-Bello said the convocation events will officially commence with a Coconut Breaking and Cultural Festival on Monday, 7th April, 2025 at the Ojo Campus of the institution.
The convocation lecture entitled: Patriots, Citizenship and National Ownership, The Imperative of Collective Responsibility for Nigeria’s future will be delivered by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa on Tuesday, 8th April, 2025.
“On Wednesday, 9th April, Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degree will be conferred on deserving graduands while the grand finale of the ceremony, award of Doctorate Degrees (Ph.D), and the conferment of distinguish professorship and Honorary Doctorate Degrees will take place on Thursday, 10th April, 2025.
The VC speaking on the achievements over the years said as an institution, LASU take immense pride in the opportunity to send forth another cohort of market ready graduates, solution oriented individuals who are well equipped to make a meaningful impact in both national and global sectors.
She said as a university which stands at the forefront of academic excellence and innovation, that seeks to become the best university in West Africa, LASU has continued to advance on the trajectory of quality teaching and research which have birth several milestone including accreditation of all courses, linkages and collaborations, rankings with the recently released Times Higher Education Ranking, with LASU ranked 5th best University in Nigeria among others.
The university, she said also achieve feats in research and innovation; ICT Innovations and Developments; Infrastructural Developments; IGR Generation and sports development.
The VC however said despite facing challenges, she take pride in the tremendous progress the university has made and have used these as stepping stones for growth and the graduation of 11,917 students this year stands as proof of our unwavering commitment to excellence.
“To our graduating students, your future is bright, go forth and make your mark, to industry leaders, I encourage you to tap into the immense potential of our graduates, who are more than prepared to contribute meaningfully to your organizations.
“I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported the journey, our Governor and Visitor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Executive Council and the 12th Governing Council led by Sir David Sunmoni and our dedicated staff, students, and unions,” she stated.
